Radiologists are medical doctors (MD or DO) who specialize in interpreting medical images—X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds, nuclear medicine, and PET scans—to diagnose and treat diseases and injuries . They work behind the scenes, writing diagnostic reports, consulting with referring physicians, and sometimes performing image-guided procedures. Radiologic Technologists (Radiographers) are the hands-on professionals who operate imaging equipment and perform the actual scans . They position patients, select technical factors, ensure radiation safety, and produce high-quality diagnostic images for radiologists to interpret. Technologists do not diagnose—their expertise lies in image acquisition and patient care during procedures . These roles exist across hospitals (emergency, OR, inpatient), outpatient imaging centers, urgent care clinics, physician offices (orthopedic, primary care), trauma centers, public health facilities, and mobile imaging services.
