Can Every Natural Gift Be Developed Into a Skill?
A natural gift and a skill are related, but they are not identical.
A gift can describe a natural capacity or tendency.
A skill generally refers to an ability that has been developed through learning and practice.
Therefore, a natural gift can often provide a useful foundation for skill development, but the relationship is not automatic.
Consider the Difference
Someone may have a natural tendency toward:
teaching
but still need to develop instructional design, communication and classroom-management skills.
Someone may have a natural tendency toward:
leadership
but still need to develop delegation, decision-making and conflict-management skills.
The natural capacity provides a possible direction.
Development provides the competence.
However, not every gift necessarily needs to become a professional skill.
A person may enjoy expressing a natural ability through hobbies, relationships, community work or personal projects.
The purpose of discovering a gift is therefore not to force every ability into a career.
It is to understand potential more clearly and decide where and how it should be developed and expressed.
