How Do I Know If I Am in the Wrong Career?

Disliking a job does not automatically mean you chose the wrong career.

Sometimes the problem is the manager, the workplace, compensation, or temporary stress. Career misalignment is broader. It requires diagnosis, not impulse.

01

Look for persistent patterns

Signs of misalignment: your strongest abilities are consistently unused, your values repeatedly conflict with the work, or you have little interest in the core responsibilities.

02

Diagnose before leaving

Ask: Is this a career problem, a role problem, an organization problem, or a season-of-life problem? This prevents unnecessary career changes.

03

Consider internal changes

Before abandoning the career, explore another role, team, or industry. Sometimes the career is fine but the current context is not.
