Career fit is the degree to which important characteristics of a person and a career work reasonably well together.
It is not the same as asking: "Can I do this job?" You might be capable of performing a job and still find that it does not fit your values or preferred environment.
Evaluate six dimensions
Consider Natural Gifts (what comes naturally), Skills (what you can do), Values (what matters), Interests (what attracts you), Environment (how you work best), and Contribution (value created).
Fit is not perfection
A career doesn't have to satisfy every preference. Every career contains difficult tasks and compromises. The question is whether the overall pattern is compatible.
Look beyond the job title
Two people with the same title have completely different experiences based on the organization, manager, team, and culture. Evaluate the actual work.
