How Do I Know What I Am Good At?
Not knowing your strengths does not mean you have none.
Sometimes your strongest abilities are difficult to recognize because they feel ordinary to you.
Start by examining your behaviour.
Ask reflective questions
What do people repeatedly ask me to help with? What problems do I naturally notice? What activities do I learn unusually quickly? What tasks can I perform without excessive effort? What have I consistently done well across different situations?
Examine your history
Look at school projects, work, volunteering, hobbies, family responsibilities and community activities. You may discover patterns that you previously ignored.
Distinguish natural ability from practice
Distinguish between what you are naturally good at and what you have become good at through practice. Both matter. A capability does not become less valuable simply because you developed it deliberately.
Look for recurring themes
A single compliment is not evidence of a strength. A recurring pattern across different situations is more informative. The more consistent the pattern, the more worth exploring it becomes.
