How to Assess Your Career Alignment: A Practical Self-Assessment
Create seven assessment areas.
Natural contribution
Which activities allow your strongest natural gifts to appear?
Skills
Which capabilities do you use regularly? Which important capabilities are underused?
Values
Which important values are respected by your work? Which are repeatedly compromised?
Interests
Which actual activities keep your attention? Which responsibilities consistently drain your interest?
Responsibilities
Compare the work you expected with the work you actually perform.
Environment
Assess management, autonomy, pace, team structure, location, communication, and workplace conditions.
Direction
"If nothing changed for the next three years, would I want to continue developing in this direction?" Then classify each area: Strong alignment / Moderate alignment / Weak alignment / Unclear. Use it to identify questions worth investigating.
Career clarity starts with understanding the relationship between who you are and the work you are doing.
