How Do I Know If My Workplace Values Match Mine?

Start by identifying the values that genuinely matter to you.

Do not simply choose values that sound attractive. Then, examine your workplace to see what is actually lived.

01

Ask yourself reflective questions

What behaviour do I respect? What makes me feel motivated? What kind of treatment do I consider unacceptable? How much autonomy do I need? How important is stability, learning, collaboration, or service?

02

Examine the reality of the workplace

Look at what is actually rewarded. How are decisions made? How are mistakes treated? How do managers communicate? What behaviours lead to recognition?

03

Look at difficult moments

What happens when employees disagree? Is development encouraged? What does the organization prioritize when difficult trade-offs arise?

04

Compare and evaluate

Compare your important values with the organization's lived values. The objective is not perfect agreement. It is to identify whether the differences are minor preferences or significant sources of misalignment.
