Job Fit vs Culture Fit
Job fit focuses primarily on the relationship between a person and the requirements of the role.
Culture fit concerns the relationship between a person and aspects of the organisation's working norms, values and environment.
A person may have excellent job fit but struggle within the organisational environment.
Another person may fit the organisation's culture but lack the capabilities required for the position.
Both Can Matter
Job fit:
Can this person perform and develop the role's responsibilities?
Culture/environment fit:
Can this person function productively within how the organisation operates?
However, "culture fit" should be used carefully.
If interpreted as "people who are like us," it can unintentionally encourage similarity and bias.
A healthier approach is to define observable workplace expectations rather than hiring people simply because they resemble existing employees.
