Personal Values Discovery Guide
Personal values are the principles and priorities that influence what matters to you and how you make choices.
They can affect career decisions even when people do not consciously recognize it.
Start With What Matters
Consider concepts like freedom, stability, creativity, service, learning, security, leadership, or innovation. This is your starting point.
Look at Your Decisions
Values become visible through behavior. Ask: What decisions have I repeatedly made? What compromises are difficult for me? What situations make me uncomfortable?
Prioritize
It is easy to say everything matters. The useful question is: "Which values matter most when two important things conflict?" (e.g., stability vs. autonomy).
Apply Values to Career Decisions
A career can be technically suitable but create dissatisfaction if the environment repeatedly violates important values. Consider values alongside skills and gifts.
