Personal Values vs Organizational Values
Personal values are principles and priorities that matter to an individual.
Organizational values describe the principles and priorities an organization claims or demonstrates through its behaviour.
Personal Values
These are individual, shape personal choices, develop through personal experience, influence career preferences, and affect individual motivation.
Organizational Values
These are collective, shape organizational behaviour, develop through organizational identity and leadership, influence workplace culture, and affect employee experience.
Differences are acceptable
The two do not need to be identical. A healthy workplace can contain people with different personal values.
Compatibility is key
The important issue is whether there is enough compatibility around the values that matter most to the work relationship.
Responsibilities for both sides
For employees, this means understanding themselves. For organizations, it means ensuring that stated values are reflected in actual behaviour.
