Personality vs Career Interests
Personality and career interests are not the same.
Personality describes tendencies in how a person behaves or responds.
Career interests describe the types of activities, subjects, problems or environments that attract attention.
Personality
Describes tendencies in behaviour, thought and interaction. It describes your manner of engaging with the world, not what you are drawn toward.
Career Interests
Describe the types of activities, subjects, problems or environments that attract your attention and curiosity. An introverted person may have strong interests in research, writing, technology or design — and so might an extroverted person.
Personality does not determine interests
Personality does not automatically determine occupational interests. An introverted person and an extroverted person can share a genuine interest in research, entrepreneurship or public service.
A stronger approach
Career exploration becomes stronger when interests are considered alongside natural gifts, skills, values, personality and work environment preferences. The question is not what career your personality type gives you — it is what combination of all these dimensions points toward suitable possibilities.
