What Happens When Talent Is Not Developed?
Potential that is never developed may remain potential.
A person can possess an ability without ever becoming highly competent in its expression.
This can happen because of:
- lack of awareness;
- lack of opportunity;
- fear;
- environment;
- financial limitations;
- competing responsibilities;
- lack of encouragement;
- limited access to education;
- poor career information.
Sometimes the ability is used informally without being recognized as a strength.
For example, someone may naturally organize people and events for years without realizing that this represents a valuable capability.
Undeveloped Does Not Always Mean Lost
An ability that has not been developed does not necessarily disappear.
It may simply remain underused.
Later experiences can reveal it again.
This is why self-discovery can remain valuable at different stages of life.
The important question is not only:
"What have I already developed?"
It can also be:
"What capability exists in me that I have not yet given enough opportunity to develop?"
