Why Different Strengths Matter in Teams
A team does not necessarily become stronger because everyone has the same strengths.
Imagine a project team containing people who are all excellent at generating ideas but nobody who enjoys: organizing details; testing assumptions; managing implementation; communicating with stakeholders; monitoring finances. The team may have many ideas but weak execution.
Complementarity matters.
One person's: innovation may combine with another person's: analysis and another person's: organization and another person's: communication to produce a stronger overall system.
This does not mean every team needs a fixed list of personality types. It means leaders should examine what capabilities the work requires and whether the team has enough coverage.
Team contribution is more than just completing a task.
