How to Turn a Weak Skill Into a Working Strength
Do not begin by trying to become excellent. First determine why the skill is weak.
Possible causes of weakness
Insufficient knowledge; lack of practice; poor technique; anxiety; lack of feedback; limited opportunity; unclear standards; unsuitable learning method.
Break the skill into components
For example, "public speaking" could become: structure → opening → explanation → voice → visual support → questions → closing. Strengthen one component at a time.
A realistic definition of success
A weak skill becomes a working strength when you can use it reliably enough to contribute meaningfully — not necessarily when you become exceptional.
Knowing your skills is useful. Understanding where those skills come from, which abilities may support them, and where they can take you gives you a much clearer picture.
