Phase 1Years 1–4
MPharm Degree
- Complete A-levels in Chemistry and Biology (AAA typical requirement)
- Study a 4-year Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) at a GPhC-accredited university
- Cover pharmaceutical sciences: pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics
- Complete clinical placement modules in hospital, community, and primary care settings
- Develop patient counselling and medicine optimisation skills

Phase 2Year 5
Foundation Training Year
- Complete a 52-week Foundation Pharmacist Training Year (formerly the pre-reg year)
- Train in a community pharmacy, hospital, or primary care network
- Develop clinical decision-making, dispensing accuracy, and patient communication
- Complete the GPhC Pharmacist Assessment at the end of the year
- Pass the GPhC registration assessment to become a registered pharmacist

Phase 3Years 5–7
Early Practice
- Work as a newly qualified pharmacist in community, hospital, or primary care
- Build clinical confidence across a range of therapeutic areas
- Develop medicines reconciliation, structured medication reviews, and prescribing skills
- Complete post-registration training (Accuracy Checking Technician, IP prescribing)
- Join the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) and engage with CPD

Phase 4Year 7+
Independent Prescribing & Specialisation
- Complete Independent Prescriber (IP) qualification — opens clinical pharmacist roles
- Specialise in oncology, critical care, paediatrics, mental health, or primary care
- Apply for Advanced Clinical Pharmacist or Consultant Pharmacist posts
- Consider management track: Pharmacy Manager, Chief Pharmacist, or Director of Pharmacy
- Pursue academic roles: teaching, research, or clinical trials pharmacy
